Cities are about connections. When you disconnect the grid from a place’s surrounding natural features, you lose the essence of these connections, and the built environment becomes a mere jumble of buildings between unconnected voids. Foggy Bottom Future is an organization devoted to the necessary development that allows for this reconnection to provide memorable places for humans to live, learn, work, and visit.
Let’s not wait for the future, let’s build it!
How can we build the future of Foggy Bottom?
- Enhance walkability and road safety, prioritizing pedestrians.
- Improve accessibility and connections to the Potomac River, Georgetown Waterfront, Rock Creek Trail, and the Kennedy Center.
- Redesign the terminus of Virginia Ave NW at Rock Creek Parkway, taking into account the L’Enfant Plan.
- Demonstrate that “responsible development” isn’t or at least does not have to be an oxymoron.
- Ensure that public engagement processes lead to the best outcomes instead of endless investments in red tape.
- Public-Private Partnership success is measured by what is delivered transparently, not just what is promised.
- Achieve workforce housing and resilience goals outlined in D.C.’s Comprehensive Plan.
- Remove or reconfigure the Whitehurst Freeway ramps to mend the rift in the city’s grid.
- Explore expanded Metro options through the WMTA easement in the area.
- Cap the subgrade sections of I-66/Potomac River Freeway for development and park use.
- Exchange zoning accommodations for onsite inclusive and equitable housing opportunities.
- Foster relationships for public/private partnerships.
